Polyurethane Exterior Facade

Polyurethane exterior facade refers to decorative architectural elements — window surrounds, columns, cornices, sills, brackets and crowns — produced from rigid polyurethane and applied to a building’s facade. The closed-cell structure, at 150-220 kg/m³ (production target ~160 kg/m³) density, absorbs less than 1% water: it does not rot, swell or host insects in rain, snow or frost. Because the elements are light, they add no structural load and can be carried and installed by a single craftsman using adhesive and screws. The single requirement outdoors is a UV-resistant elastic topcoat; the white acrylic primer applied at the factory is a technical base, not a finish coat.

Which products does a polyurethane facade programme cover?

The range falls into five groups. Window and door surrounds frame the openings and reduce thermal bridging. Columns come in 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 cm diameters with plain, fluted or helix shafts, matched to Doric, Ionic or Corinthian capitals. Cornices and eaves profiles define the upper line of the facade, while sills define the area beneath windows. Brackets and consoles give a load-bearing appearance under bays and balconies. Crowns, arches and motifs are used at focal points such as entrances and balconies.

How does a polyurethane facade element differ from EPS foam?

The difference starts with density: rigid polyurethane is produced in the 150-220 kg/m³ (production target ~160 kg/m³) range, with a production target of about 150-220 kg/m³ (production target ~160 kg/m³), whereas EPS is far lighter. In severe hailstorms EPS surfaces are punctured and cratered while polyurethane keeps its structural integrity. The closed-cell structure absorbs less than 1% water and the service range is -100 °C / +80 °C, so the material stays dimensionally stable. Fire behaviour is class B2 (flame retardant): thanks to phosphorus-based flame retardants in the raw material, it self-extinguishes once the flame source is removed.

How is the facade installation carried out?

The sequence matters. 1) Surfaces are cleaned of dust, grease and moisture; loose plaster and paint are scraped off. The material is too dense to cut with a utility knife — use a fine-tooth hand saw or a mitre saw, with 45° mitres at corners. 2) Never use silicone-based adhesive; apply a PU-based mounting adhesive in an uninterrupted bead both to the wall face and to every joint between parts, and wipe off squeeze-out with a damp cloth before it cures. 3) Mechanical fixing is mandatory: outdoors the parts are screwed to each other from opposite sides and screw heads are sunk into the material. 4) Joints and screw heads are filled flush with exterior filler and sanded smooth with 180-220 grit once dry.

What paint, primer and UV protection are required?

The white industrial acrylic primer applied at the factory is a technical base for adhesion; without a topcoat the product gradually fades under UV. Before priming, the whole surface is lightly matted with 180-220 grit and cleaned — release-agent residue from moulding can make paint peel. One rule is critical for warranty: the primer must be the system primer of the same brand as the topcoat, otherwise paint manufacturers decline responsibility for blistering and peeling. Outdoors, highly elastic UV-resistant facade systems (for example the premium exterior ranges of Jotun or Filli Boya) are preferred.

On which building types is it used?

The application is not limited to one building type. On villas the facade character is set by the trio of surrounds, columns and cornices. On wedding and banquet halls wide elevations are emphasised with crowns, arches and rows of columns; on commercial fronts such as hotels, cafés and shops brand visibility comes first. In apartment and housing projects, repeating window surrounds allow a fast, lightweight facade renovation. The projects in the gallery were built in varied climates, including Tokat, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa and Gebze.

How are measurements, custom production and price determined?

A quotation requires the dimensions of the area in linear metres or m², current photographs and the location. For cladding work the widest point of the element to be covered is measured and the inner diameter of the column must exceed it; if a load will rest on it, an internal steel frame carries that load — a polyurethane column is not load-bearing and is never filled with concrete. Models, motifs and sizes outside the catalogue can be produced with 3D scanning and CNC; 3D design and on-site surveys are chargeable services. Prices cover the product only and goods are ex-works.

Are they resistant to hail and strong wind?

Yes. At 150-220 kg/m³ (production target ~160 kg/m³) density they are not punctured and cratered by severe hail the way EPS foam is. For wind resistance, installation must combine adhesive with screws, with parts screwed to each other at the joints.

Can the products be left unpainted?
