Exterior Columns
An exterior column is a decorative architectural element that creates a vertical accent on the facade and consists of shaft, capital and base. Polyurethane columns come in 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 cm diameters, with plain, fluted or helix shafts matched to Doric, Ionic and Corinthian capitals. The full-round form is used in free-standing positions and the half-round (pilaster) form where the column meets a wall. Columns are decorative and not load-bearing: if a load will rest on them, an internal steel frame carries it.

Is a polyurethane column load-bearing?
No. The column is decorative and hollow. If a load will rest on it, an internal steel frame is fitted and carries the load; the column remains an aesthetic cladding.
Which measurement is taken when cladding an existing pier?
The widest point of the pier is measured. The inner diameter of the column must exceed that figure, otherwise the two half shells will not close at the vertical joints.
Can the column be filled with concrete?
It is not recommended. The correct reinforcement method is a steel frame. Concrete increases the risk of cracking in the cladding because of thermal movement and weight.
Which diameters are produced as standard?
Shaft diameters are 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 cm. Capitals are listed in the catalogue for 20-60 cm diameters; other sizes are assessed as custom production.
