What Is a Ceiling Rose?

Definition of the ceiling rose, its purpose, types, the advantages of polyurethane and its installation — a comprehensive guide prepared with manufacturer expertise.

A ceiling rose (also called a ceiling medallion) is a circular decorative element applied to the centre of the ceiling, usually surrounding the chandelier. It gives the ceiling a classical focal point, visually crowns the chandelier and adds unity to the space. The polyurethane ceiling rose is the modern solution that has replaced plaster, thanks to its light weight, sharp ornament details and easy installation.

What Does a Ceiling Rose Do?

1. Focal point: Creates a visual centre in the middle of the ceiling; the eye is drawn to the rose together with the chandelier. 2. Chandelier complement: Frames the chandelier connection point, hiding the cable outlet and ceiling hook. 3. Unity: Used together with cornices, it gives the ceiling a complete classical arrangement. 4. Proportion: In large and high-ceilinged spaces it reduces the feeling of emptiness and scales the ceiling. It is widely used in living rooms, dining rooms, hotel lobbies and wedding halls.

What Are the Types of Ceiling Rose?

- Circular rose: The most classical form; a wide range of models from plain rings to dense ornament. - Oval and square rose: Preferred in rectangular spaces and modern designs. - Dome rose: A model with concave depth giving the ceiling a dome effect; can be applied with hidden lighting. - Segmented rose: Large-diameter roses are produced in parts for easy handling and installation. The diameter is chosen according to the room size and chandelier size: a rose slightly larger than the chandelier diameter gives a balanced look.

Advantages of Polyurethane Roses

- Light weight: Does not load the ceiling; can be installed with adhesive only, with far lower risk of falling than plaster. - Sharp detail: Being moulded, leaf and rosette ornaments are crisp. - Moisture resistance: Does not absorb water; does not crumble on damp ceilings. - Paintable: Can be painted with ceiling paint or with gold/silver accents. - Fast installation: Bonded in minutes; no drying wait.

How Is a Ceiling Rose Installed?

1. Centring: The chandelier connection point is taken as centre; the cable is passed through the hole in the middle of the rose. 2. Surface preparation: The ceiling is cleaned of dust and loose paint. 3. Bonding: Polyurethane mounting adhesive is applied to the back of the rose and pressed onto the ceiling; temporary support is used for large diameters. 4. Joint and paint: The edge joint is filled and painted with ceiling paint. 5. Chandelier installation: The chandelier is hung after the adhesive has cured. Segmented roses can be joined on the floor first and then lifted to the ceiling.

What Determines Ceiling Rose Prices?

The rose price varies according to diameter, ornament density, dome depth and number of parts. Since our products are made to order, prices are given on a project basis; the price covers only the product cost, shipping and installation are excluded, and products are ex-works.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ceiling Roses

What is a ceiling rose in short?

A ceiling rose is a circular decorative element applied to the centre of the ceiling, usually surrounding the chandelier; it gives the ceiling a classical focal point.

How is the rose diameter chosen?

The diameter is chosen according to the room size and chandelier size. A rose slightly larger than the chandelier diameter gives a balanced look; large or domed models are preferred in big halls.

Can a polyurethane rose fall off the ceiling?

Being lightweight, a polyurethane rose installed with the right adhesive does not fall. The mechanical suspension required for heavy plaster roses is unnecessary for most polyurethane models.

Can a rose be used without a chandelier?

Yes. A rose can be applied on its own as ceiling decoration; domed models with hidden LED lighting give an impressive look without a chandelier.

How is a ceiling rose painted?

It is painted with standard ceiling paint; detail painting with gold, silver or contrast colours can highlight the ornament. Painting after installation and joint filling is recommended.

What is a dome rose?

A dome rose is a model with concave depth that gives the ceiling a dome effect. Applied with hidden lighting, the sense of depth increases.

What do ceiling rose prices depend on?

Diameter, ornament density, dome depth and number of parts determine the price. Because products are made to order, the price is given on a project basis.
