The Pilaster Column is a decorative architectural cladding element that creates the appearance of a column on walls and facades. Measuring 8x15x240 cm, it establishes a clear vertical rhythm while its narrow section avoids covering unnecessary wall area. The product is not a structural column; it is installed over existing concrete, steel or masonry structures to provide a decorative finish.
Its rigid, closed-cell polyurethane construction offers practical benefits such as low weight, easy cutting and resistance to moisture. The material density is 150-220 kg/m³. Water absorption is below 1%, which supports use in damp environments and on exterior facades when an appropriate paint system is applied. The product retains its form from -20 °C / +70 °C. Although it has fire class B2 (DIN 4102-1), product and application documentation must be assessed separately for fire performance and project suitability.
Pilaster Column P5015W50 has a decorative surface texture, but the available source information does not identify a specific motif or carved pattern. It can therefore be considered a neutral decorative element suitable for adaptation to different architectural styles. The factory primer helps prepare the surface for water-based or synthetic paint. Additional primer is optional; paint manufacturers may not provide a warranty for surfaces painted without their recommended primer. Polure does not guarantee the paint system used and accepts no responsibility for it.
Pilaster columns can be used for vertical articulation in entrance halls, living rooms, stairway walls, hotel lobbies, restaurants and retail interiors. They can also complement compositions around windows or doors on villa and commercial building facades. The 240 cm length provides vertical continuity in standard storey-height layouts; the actual wall height should be measured before installation and a cutting plan prepared if necessary. Where multiple pieces are used, the joints can be filled with filler and sanded to create a continuous appearance.
Before installation, the surface must be clean, dry and sound. The piece is prepared with 45° mitre cuts; after checking the cuts and joints, polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive is applied. Mechanical fixing with screws is mandatory, taking the product's own weight and connection loads into account. For wide or tall applications, the supporting surface and fixing method should be selected according to the project conditions. Silicone adhesive must not be used. Finally, the joints and screw heads are filled, smoothed with 180-220 grit sandpaper, primed again if necessary and painted with two coats.
Compared with plaster, the pilaster is lighter and more flexible under impact. Compared with wood, it offers greater resistance to moisture and decay. Its harder structure than EPS foam helps preserve sharp profile lines. Regular surface maintenance and the use of UV-resistant paint outdoors are important for maintaining its decorative appearance.
- The Pilaster Column can be used indoors to create a vertical column effect on walls
- In living rooms, two pilasters can be positioned symmetrically around a bookcase, fireplace or TV unit; in entrance halls, they can highlight a doorway
- They can also be used on both sides of a bedroom feature wall, or on articulated wall surfaces in offices and retail spaces
- In hotel lobbies and restaurants, pilasters create a more structured composition when combined with wall panels or string courses
- Outdoors, they provide a decorative column effect around villa entrances, windows and door axes
- The product must not be treated as a structural element on exterior facades and should be protected with UV-resistant paint
- The 8x15 cm section can be used on narrow walls without creating visual or physical congestion, while the 240 cm length maintains a continuous vertical emphasis
- Before installation, the facade or wall height should be measured, and joints should be made inconspicuous with filler and sanding where pieces need to be joined
- The installation surface must be free of grease, dust and loose layers, and must be dry and sound
- Mark the pilaster according to the required dimensions and prepare it with 45° mitre cuts
- Dry-fit the cut surfaces before joining them
- Use only polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive for fixing; silicone must not be used
- Mechanical fixing with screws is mandatory, taking the product's own weight and connection loads into account
- Select plugs and fixings according to the structure of the surface
- Fill the joints and screw heads, then smooth them with 180-220 grit sandpaper
- The factory primer prepares the surface for painting; applying an additional primer is optional
- Finish by applying two coats of a suitable water-based or synthetic paint
- For exterior applications, use UV-resistant paint and seal the joints and screw points with exterior-grade filler
- Clean the Pilaster Column surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth
- Do not use abrasive chemicals, stiff brushes or cleaning tools that may scratch the surface
- Indoors, inspect the painted surface regularly and gently remove any accumulated dirt
- Outdoors, check the paint film for cracking, peeling or colour changes
- Carry out maintenance and renewal work according to the instructions of the paint system manufacturer
- If a joint opens, fill and sand the area, then repair it with the relevant paint system
Can the Pilaster Column be used on exterior facades?
Yes. The Pilaster Column can be used as decorative cladding on exterior facades, but it does not replace a structural column. For exterior installation, the surface must be sound and dry, mechanical fixing must be provided, and the joints must be sealed with exterior-grade filler. Unpainted polyurethane may yellow over time, so UV-resistant paint is required. Facade conditions, the fixing method and the paint system should be assessed before installation.
How is the Pilaster Column installed and painted?
After the surface has been cleaned and dried, prepare the piece with 45° mitre cuts. Apply polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive and mechanically secure the product with screws; do not use silicone. Fill the joints and screw heads, then smooth them with 180-220 grit sandpaper. The factory primer prepares the surface for painting, while an additional primer is optional. Apply two coats of suitable paint as the final step.
How durable is the Pilaster Column, and how much does it weigh?
The net weight of the individual piece is not specified in the available product information. The rigid, closed-cell polyurethane structure has a density of 150-220 kg/m³; it is lighter than plaster and solid wood, while being harder than EPS foam. Water absorption is below 1%, and the material retains its form from -20 °C / +70 °C. Service life depends on installation, the paint system, exposure to sunlight and maintenance conditions.
Why choose a pilaster column instead of plaster or wood?
The Pilaster Column is a lighter and more impact-resistant decorative cladding option than plaster. Compared with wood, it offers greater resistance to moisture, decay and insect damage. It has greater hardness and surface integrity than EPS foam. Because it can be cut, filled, sanded and painted, joints can be refined during installation and the product can be adapted to different interior or exterior colour schemes.
Which walls are suitable for an 8x15x240 cm pilaster?
The 8x15x240 cm size is suitable for living rooms, entrance halls, stairway walls, hotel lobbies, restaurants and retail applications where a vertical accent is desired. The 8 cm section creates a column effect without taking up excessive space on narrow walls, while the 15 cm depth provides a visible profile. The 240 cm length should be compared with the installation height, with cutting or joining planned where necessary.
