A fluted pilaster column is a decorative polyurethane cladding element used on walls or existing structural surfaces to create a vertical architectural accent. The P5015 model measures 15 x 15 x 240 cm, providing a strong sense of height within a narrow profile. It enhances the appearance of columns beside doors, at entrances and in facade designs; however, it does not carry structural loads and cannot replace a load-bearing column.
The P5015 Pilaster Column is manufactured from closed-cell rigid polyurethane and supplied with a white, factory-primed surface. Its density is 150-220 kg/m³. Thanks to its closed-cell structure, its water absorption is below 1%, offering advantages over plaster and wood alternatives in terms of resistance to moisture, rot and moisture-related deterioration. The product is assessed within the dimensional stability test range -20 °C / +70 °C and is classified as B2 (DIN 4102-1). It should not be left unpainted outdoors and must be protected with UV-resistant paint.
Regular vertical flutes running along the body create a distinct rhythm of light and shadow across the surface. The fluted profile reinforces the pilaster effect in classical architectural compositions and can also be used to visually divide walls in contemporary interiors. The smooth primed areas provide a suitable base for painting. The factory primer prepares the surface for paint; whether an additional primer is needed should be determined according to the paint manufacturer's application system. Paint manufacturers may not provide a warranty for surfaces painted without using their own primer. Polure does not guarantee paints used on the product and accepts no responsibility for them.
The pilaster column can be installed on both sides of a doorway at a villa entrance, at the beginnings of arches and along corridor walls. In a living room or hotel lobby, two profiles can be used symmetrically to create an orderly composition around a mirror, niche or decorative panel. It can also be used to highlight the wall behind a reception desk in restaurants and offices. On exterior facades, it serves as decorative vertical cladding around windows, doors and arches. For facade applications, joints and screw points must be filled with exterior-grade filler, and the surface must be finished with UV-resistant paint.
For installation, the surface is cleaned and dried, the pieces are cut with 45° mitre joints, and polyurethane (PU) installation adhesive is used. Mechanical fixing with screws is mandatory; the fixing method should be selected according to the surface and application conditions. Joints are filled, smoothed with 180-220 grit sandpaper, then finished with primer and two coats of paint. Compared with plaster, it is lighter and more resistant to breakage; compared with wood, it offers greater resistance to moisture and decay; and compared with EPS foam, it provides a harder surface with sharper detail. P5015 is therefore a decorative architectural cladding option that can be repainted in different colours and repaired when necessary.
- The P5015 fluted pilaster column is suitable for areas requiring vertical division, thanks to its 15 x 15 x 240 cm dimensions
- At a villa entrance, it can be installed on both sides of the door to create an orderly frame around the opening
- It can be used in corridors and entrance halls to divide wall surfaces into panels
- In a living room, installing symmetrical pairs around a mirror, niche or TV unit highlights the rhythm of light and shadow created by the flutes
- It can be used to define a headboard wall in a bedroom, highlight the area behind a hotel reception desk or turn a selected restaurant wall into an architectural focal axis
- On exterior facades, it is applied as decorative vertical cladding beside windows, doors and arches
- UV-resistant paint is essential for exterior use; an unpainted surface may yellow in sunlight
- The pilaster is decorative, not structural, and is installed as cladding over an existing structural surface
- Before installation, the surface must be clean, dry and sound
- P5015 pieces are measured and cut with 45° mitre joints at connections
- Polyurethane (PU) installation adhesive is applied to the back, and the profile is positioned
- Mechanical fixing with screws is mandatory; the choice of anchors and fixings must be based on the nature of the existing surface
- Silicone adhesive must not be used
- Joints and screw heads are filled with a suitable filler and smoothed with 180-220 grit sandpaper
- The factory primer prepares the surface for painting; if the paint manufacturer's system requires an additional primer, it should be applied separately
- As a final step, two coats of water-based or synthetic paint are applied
- Outdoors, joints and screw points must be filled with exterior-grade filler, and UV-resistant paint must be used
- The P5015 pilaster column can be wiped with a soft, slightly damp cloth during cleaning
- A soft brush or dry microfibre cloth should be used to remove dust accumulated between the flutes
- Abrasive powders, solvent-based products and harsh chemical cleaners should be avoided, as they may damage the paint layer
- Outdoors, the painted surface should be inspected regularly; cracks, impact damage or opened joints should be repaired with a suitable filler and paint system
- During maintenance, particular attention should be paid to the paint layer, joints and mechanical fixing points
Can the P5015 pilaster column be used outdoors?
Yes. P5015 can be used outdoors as decorative cladding beside windows, doors and arches. The product is not structural and is installed over an existing structural surface. It must not be left unpainted outdoors and should be protected with UV-resistant paint. Joints and screw points must be filled with exterior-grade filler. To reduce the effects of sunlight, rain and temperature changes, the product should be installed using the exterior paint system recommended by the paint manufacturer.
How is the pilaster column installed and painted?
The piece, prepared with a 45° mitre joint, is installed on a clean, dry surface using polyurethane (PU) installation adhesive and mechanically fixed with screws. Silicone must not be used. Joints and screw heads are filled, then smoothed with 180-220 grit sandpaper. The factory primer prepares the surface for painting; an additional primer may be selected according to the paint system. Two coats of water-based or synthetic paint are then applied.
Is the P5015 pilaster column durable and heavy?
P5015 is manufactured with a closed-cell rigid structure and a density of 150-220 kg/m³. Despite its 15 x 15 x 240 cm dimensions, it is easier to carry and install than decorative elements made from plaster, concrete, stone or solid wood. It is designed to maintain its shape within the dimensional stability test range -20 °C / +70 °C. Because the product has its own weight and places loads on its fixings, mechanical fixing must not be omitted.
Why choose P5015 instead of plaster or wood?
Compared with plaster, P5015 is a lighter decorative cladding option with greater resistance to breakage. Compared with wood, it offers greater resistance to moisture and decay. Its fluted profile provides a consistent appearance through moulded production. It has a harder, more detailed surface than EPS foam. It can also be filled, sanded and repainted, making it easier to correct minor application defects and refresh the decorative colour over time.
What are the surface and colour of the P5015 pilaster column?
P5015 is supplied with a white, factory-primed surface. The vertical flutes create a clear linear rhythm across the body, while the areas between the flutes have a smooth primed finish. The product can be painted in the desired colour with water-based or synthetic paint. The need for an additional primer should be determined according to the paint manufacturer's application system. The factory primer alone may not meet the warranty conditions of every paint brand.
