The Aesthetic Focal Point of Classical Architecture: Pediments & Overdoors
In interior and exterior design, pediments placed above doors and windows are among the most magnificent architectural details that directly define a building's character. Historically referred to as pediments and considered indispensable in palace architecture, these elements are brought back to life with Polure's modern polyurethane production vision. Unlike traditional heavy materials, our formulas—featuring a lightweight density of 150-200 kg/m³ with a hardness close to wood—offer both ease of installation and superior surface quality. Our extensive selection, ranging from the 1713 mm wide P2838 model designed for wide door openings to the more minimal P2832 model, ensures aesthetic integrity in projects of any scale. These elements provide smooth transitions at the intersection of vertical and horizontal lines, visually increasing the ceiling height and giving structures a monumental identity.
Technical Superiority and Structural Stability
When analyzed in terms of structural strength, our rigid foam solutions offer a shatterproof structure compared to traditional plaster-based ornaments. While plaster is sensitive to moisture, prone to shedding and cracking, these closed-cell products maintain their form even in humid environments with a water absorption rate of less than 1%. Retaining its dimensional stability across a wide temperature range from -20°C to +80°C, the material neither expands nor warps over time. This stability guarantees long-lasting performance, especially in overdoor applications exposed to vibrations caused by door leaves. Thanks to its cellular structure contributing to thermal and acoustic insulation, it supports energy efficiency in your projects.
Detail Quality and Design Flexibility
In terms of design richness, our collection spans a wide range of styles from baroque to neoclassical lines. The aesthetic variety offered by our models is as follows:
- P2833 and P2835: Inspired by the most elegant examples of classical architecture, these designs are enriched with floral ornaments and curved lines.
- P2838B: With its geometric details and robust structure, it perfectly complements simple, dignified neoclassical interior designs.
- P2837 (140x770x450 mm) and P2834 (101x846x285 mm): Deep and richly patterned alternatives that bring symmetrical details with a hand-carved look to your walls in minutes.
- P2832L: With its 906 mm width, it offers ideal proportions for standard single-leaf interior doors.
The smooth surfaces, which come pre-primed from the factory, can be easily painted with water-based or synthetic paints. In architectural projects, these pediments can be combined with pilasters or column capitals to achieve a complete portal look.
Prestigious Solutions Adding Value to Spaces
For architects and interior designers, the power of details in decoration is undeniable. Elevating door and window frames from the ordinary can instantly transform the atmosphere of an entire room. This exclusive product group in the Polure collection is preferred in a wide range of settings, from luxury residences to boutique hotels. Especially in high-ceilinged spaces, these designs, which harmonize beautifully with ceiling cornices and wall panels, emphasize the vertical axis of the space, making it feel more spacious and grand. The combination of classical pediment forms with modern engineering also saves installation teams significant time on-site. Eliminating risks such as plaster drying times, molding stages, and casting defects, our factory fabrication promises millimetric symmetry and high detail clarity in every piece.
Sustainability and Longevity
Produced in line with our sustainability principles, these architectural elements do not rot, harbor insects, or mold like their wooden counterparts. Polure Pediments are a successful synthesis of modern technology and historical heritage. When supported with UV-resistant paints in exterior applications, they maintain their aesthetic appearance for decades without yellowing or becoming brittle under sunlight. With its eco-friendly formula that does not release harmful chemicals, it contributes to green building standards.
Usage Areas
Pediments are critical elements that organize the visual hierarchy of structures in both interior design and exterior architecture. Indoors, they are positioned as focal points, especially above living room entrance doors, in hallway transitions, and at the peaks of wide wall niches. They are also preferred to add depth to large bedroom headboards or the top panels of decorative fireplaces. On exteriors, they are used to crown window trim systems, in villa entrance portals, and to create grand entrances in combination with columns and pilasters. They are ideal for elevating the architectural quality of prestigious commercial spaces such as hotel lobbies, theaters, restaurants, and historical restoration projects.
Installation
The success of the installation depends on applying the correct techniques. First, the application surface must be dry, clean, and free of dust. The back surfaces of the pediments should be checked to ensure they fit flat against the wall, and 45-degree miter cuts must be made precisely if necessary. Silicone should never be used for bonding; instead, high-strength PU adhesives like Polure Polfix should be preferred. For heavy models, mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory to prevent the material from slipping. After the adhesive dries, screw heads and joints must be filled with high-quality putty and then sanded smooth with 180-220 grit sandpaper. In the final stage, a primer coat should be applied, followed by two coats of paint. For exterior installations, exterior-grade joint sealant must be used at the joints, and the process should be completed with UV-resistant paint.
Care Information
Thanks to its high-density structure, maintenance requirements are minimal. A slightly damp, soft cloth is sufficient for dusting and cleaning. Chemical solvents, thinners, or abrasive brushes with hard surfaces should not be used, as they can damage the paint layer. Being 100% resistant to water and moisture, it does not swell or deform even in humid areas like bathrooms. Minor damages from impacts can be easily filled with acrylic putty, sanded, and spot-painted to restore its original appearance.
