Ionic Column Capital

The ionic column capital is a polyurethane capital placed at the upper section of columns belonging to the classical Ionic order, recognised by the volute (spiral curl) ornaments on either side. It is used above columns and pilasters to form the capital part of the column. Polyurethane is lightweight; it is applied to the column shaft with mounting adhesive, resists moisture and impact, does not crack or swell, and can be painted. Being lighter than its stone and plaster equivalent makes installation at height easier, and unlike wood it is not affected by moisture. Because it is mould-cast, the volute curves repeat identically on every piece. Polure produces the ionic column capital in sizes suitable for different column diameters.
