The P583050 fluted polyurethane half column shaft is an architectural cladding element that adds vertical depth to spaces through its vertical lines and symmetrical surface fluting. Installed on wall surfaces, doorways, or over existing concrete or steel structural posts, it brings classical architectural structure to buildings. Thanks to its non-load-bearing decorative nature, it creates a column appearance while adding only limited weight to the building.
The shaft profile features dimensions of 150 mm depth, 300 mm width, and 2400 mm height. Made from high-density (150-220 kg/m³) rigid polyurethane, it provides strength comparable to wood while remaining lightweight for easy handling. Its closed-cell internal structure keeps water absorption below 1%. It maintains dimensional stability without warping, shrinking, or cracking in temperature fluctuations between -20 °C / +70 °C.
Regular vertical fluting channels on the surface create light and shadow play, adding volume to facades or interior walls. The semi-circular form is designed to sit completely flush against the wall surface. Combining two half column shafts side-by-side forms a full cylindrical column casing with a 300 mm diameter. The product comes factory-primed in white, ready for painting.
This model is widely preferred in entrance halls, spacious living areas, villa facades, hotel reception areas, restaurants, and retail spaces. Resistant to moisture and water, it can be safely used in wet and semi-outdoor areas like bathrooms or open terraces. For exterior applications, coating with high-quality UV-resistant paint ensures high resistance to sunlight and weathering.
During installation, polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive is applied to a clean surface, accompanied by mechanical screw fastening at key points. Joint seams and screw heads are filled with putty, sanded smooth with 180-220 grit sandpaper, and painted in the desired color. Unlike plaster or wood alternatives, it is resistant to cracking, flaking, or rotting, and reduces pest risks.
- This fluted half column shaft has a wide range of applications in both interior design and exterior architecture
- Indoors, it is ideal for framing wall niches, highlighting wide archways, creating vertical lines behind TV units, or designing grand entrance foyers
- Outdoors, it serves as cladding on both sides of entrance doors, beneath balconies, along floor overhangs, or to conceal existing unsightly structural pillars and utility pipes
- It is also frequently selected for hotel lobbies, restaurants, event halls, and storefronts to complete classical architectural concepts
- The wall or column surface must be thoroughly cleaned of dust and grease and kept dry
- Polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive is applied to the rear contact surface of the half column shaft, which is then pressed against the wall plane
- Due to its 2400 mm height, the shaft should be mechanically secured to the wall using screws and anchors at the top, middle, and bottom until the adhesive cures
- Screw heads are countersunk slightly below the surface
- Once cured, screw recesses and joint lines are filled with putty, sanded smooth with 180-220 grit sandpaper, and finished with water-based or synthetic paint
- Thanks to its closed-cell structure, the product has low water absorption (below 1%)
- Surface cleaning can easily be done using a damp cloth or mild soapy water
- Avoid using abrasive cleaning powders, hard brushes, or harsh chemicals like bleach
- For exterior installations, accumulated dust can be washed off with low-pressure water
- Over time, any minor surface wear on painted areas can be sanded down and repainted to restore its original appearance
Does this half column shaft bear structural load?
Include the product weight and fixing loads when assessing the substrate and supporting structure. It is designed as cladding to wrap around existing concrete, steel, or timber load-bearing columns.
Is the P583050 column shaft suitable for exterior use?
Yes, it is manufactured from rigid polyurethane with a water absorption rate under 1% and dimensional stability tested between -20 °C and +70 °C. When finished with UV-resistant exterior paint after installation, it offers exceptional durability against rain, snow, and sunlight.
Can two half columns be combined to form a full round column?
Yes, joining two of these half column shafts (150 mm depth by 300 mm width) creates a full cylindrical column cladding with an outer diameter of 300 mm. The joints can be rendered completely seamless using polyurethane filler and sanding.
Which adhesive should be used for installation? Is silicone suitable?
Polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive must be used for installation. Standard clear or general-purpose silicones do not provide long-term bonding strength for polyurethane to walls or adjacent pieces. Due to the product height, mechanical fixing with screws alongside adhesive is also required.
What are the advantages of polyurethane columns over plaster columns?
Polyurethane columns are significantly lighter than plaster, preventing breakage or crumbling during transport and installation. They have very low moisture absorption and are resistant to rot, reducing mold issues. Unlike wood or plaster, they are highly resistant to pests and are less likely to crack outdoors.
