Decorative column and column capital is the component in which the column shaft and the capital piece sitting on top of the shaft are considered together. The column capital completes the transition between the shaft and the ceiling or arch and, in Doric, Ionic or Corinthian form, defines the column's character. Indoors they are used in living rooms and transition areas, and outdoors on entrance and arcade columns together.
