Throughout history, vertically grooved architectural elements have served as the most prominent load-bearing and decorative features of monumental structures, and they continue to define an elegant aesthetic language in modern architecture. Stretching from ancient Greek temples to Roman palaces, this deep-rooted design tradition lends a sense of height and depth to spaces through the interplay of vertical lines with light and shadow. Developed by Polure, the high-density rigid polyurethane (PU) fluted column collection blends this historical elegance with lightweight durability, seamlessly integrating it into modern projects. Unlike traditional marble or stone, these specialized structures add no extra load to structural systems and significantly shorten construction timelines due to their ease of installation.
Classical Architectural Details and Dimensional Variety
The vertical grooves used in the design create a seamless sense of motion across the surface, making ceilings appear taller than they are. Offering flexible options based on project scale, the Polure product range includes full-body designs in various diameters (from 200 mm to 600 mm) such as P5820, P5830, P5840, P5850, and P5860. While smaller-diameter models are preferred for residential interiors, larger alternatives like the P5860 stand out in monumental spaces such as hotel lobbies, grand wedding halls, and villa entrances. Our half-section designs (P582050, P583050, P584050, P585050, and P586050) provide decorative solutions to create a recessed pilaster effect on wall surfaces.
Technical Advantages and Material Quality
The rigid PU material with a density of 150-200 kg/m³ used in these exclusive designs offers a hardness close to wood while remaining extremely lightweight. Issues like cracking, breaking, and crumbling, which are common in plaster-based materials, do not occur with these products. The closed-cell structure of the material keeps water absorption below 1%, preventing swelling or rotting even in humid environments. Fully retaining its form in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C, our products can be safely used both indoors and under harsh outdoor weather conditions.
Key Design Advantages:
- High Detail Precision: Thanks to CNC-assisted production technology, all fluted channels feature millimeter-level symmetry.
- Easy Workability: Produced in a standard length of 2400 mm, the shafts can be easily cut to the desired height on-site.
- Surface Preparation: The factory-applied special primer coat ensures excellent adhesion for both water-based and synthetic paints.
- Durability: Highly resistant to impacts, minimizing long-term maintenance requirements.
Usage Areas
Column elements have a wide range of applications in both interior design and exterior architecture. Indoors, they are preferred in prestigious areas such as hotel lobbies, restaurant entrances, ballrooms, and wedding halls to define spatial boundaries or enhance vertical emphasis. Half-column models like the P583050, applied flush against the wall, serve as decorative framing elements in corridors, around fireplaces, or on either side of niches. On exteriors, they create aesthetic visual layers in villa entrance portals, around doors and windows, and at under-eave support points. The material's high water resistance also ensures safe use in landscaping and semi-open veranda areas.
Installation
The success of the application depends on the flawless execution of the correct installation steps. First, ensure that the application surface is clean, dust-free, and dry. The products are cut according to the ceiling height of the installation area using a fine-toothed saw. Silicone-based adhesives must absolutely not be used for bonding; instead, high-strength PU adhesives such as Polure Polfix should be preferred. After applying the adhesive, it is MANDATORY to mechanically secure the product with screws. Once joints and screw heads are filled with a high-quality putty, they are sanded smooth with 180-220 grit sandpaper. In the final stage, a primer is applied, followed by two coats of paint. For exterior applications, exterior-grade joint sealant must be used, and the surface must be painted with UV-resistant exterior paint.
Care Information
Manufactured from rigid PU material, these products offer long-lasting use with low maintenance requirements. Cleaning the surfaces with a slightly damp, soft cloth is sufficient; abrasive chemicals and stiff brushes should be avoided. Thanks to its dust-resistant structure, it is highly hygienic. For exterior applications, it is recommended to renew the UV-resistant paint every 8-10 years, depending on climatic conditions, to extend the lifespan of the paint. Minor surface damage caused by impacts can easily be repaired with acrylic filler and localized touch-up painting.
