P1981AK is a decorative polyurethane architectural element designed to complement rustic log and rafter layouts at the intersection of ceilings and walls. Combining the warmth of natural wood grain with the durability of modern materials, this compact design adds depth and architectural character to living spaces. It is ideal for aesthetically finishing ceiling beam systems, particularly in chalet, rustic, or industrial-style interiors.
Boasting superior technical specifications, this decorative element offers a compact and elegant profile with dimensions of 64 mm in width, 92 mm in depth, and 85 mm in height. Manufactured from high-density rigid polyurethane (150-220 kg/m³), it matches the hardness of real wood but offers far greater impact resistance. Unlike plaster, it helps reduce crumbling or cracking, and its closed-cell structure offers low water absorption (below 1%), helping reduce exposure to moisture, humidity, and pests.
The surface design is enriched with deep wood fibers, natural growth rings, and distressed grain textures visible in the imagery. These detailed reliefs create a play of light and shadow when painted, lending an incredibly realistic and authentic atmosphere to any room. The factory-applied primer coat ensures excellent adhesion for the final paint finish.
This mini rafter tail is highly favored for creating a load-bearing corbel appearance where faux wood ceiling beams meet the wall. Additionally, it serves as an elegant support bracket under small decorative wall shelves in kitchens or living rooms, or as a rustic accent around fireplaces. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, including wet areas and under-eave installations on facades.
Include the product weight and fixing loads when assessing the substrate and supporting structure. It is applied by spreading Polure Polfix polyurethane adhesive onto a clean surface and mechanically securing it with screws. Once screw heads and joints are puttied and sanded, it is ready for painting. It offers significantly harder and smoother details compared to EPS foam alternatives.
While the factory-applied primer prepares the surface for painting, an additional primer coat post-installation is optional and left to the customer's discretion due to paint manufacturers' warranty terms. Polure is not responsible for the performance of third-party paint brands; however, when painted correctly and protected with UV-resistant paints outdoors, these products retain their original form for decades.
- The P1981AK polyurethane rafter tail offers versatile design solutions for both interior and exterior projects thanks to its compact size and high-definition detail
- In interior design, it is frequently used to create a load-bearing corbel effect where decorative faux beam systems meet walls in living rooms and corridors
- In spaces aiming for a warm, natural ambiance—such as chalets, hotel lobbies, cafes, and restaurants—it can be utilized around fireplace surrounds or as a distinctive corner accent above door and window casings
- It also serves as a rustic support bracket under small decorative shelves in kitchens and bathrooms
- For exterior applications, it is an excellent alternative for replicating traditional timber architecture under window eaves, porches, and balcony joints while remaining lightweight and putting only a limited load on the structure
- Assess water and moisture exposure using the product technical data, surface finish and installation details
- The installation surface on the wall or ceiling must be completely clean, dry, and free of dust or grease
- Apply a continuous bead of Polure Polfix polyurethane adhesive to the back of the product and press it firmly onto the mounting area
- For a secure and permanent installation, mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory alongside the adhesive
- Fill screw holes and any joints with polyurethane or acrylic filler
- Once the filler dries, sand the surface smooth using 180-220 grit sandpaper
- Depending on the paint manufacturer's recommendation, an optional extra coat of primer can be applied over the factory primer, followed by two coats of water-based or synthetic paint
- For outdoor applications, UV-resistant exterior paints must be used to protect the product from sunlight degradation
- The polyurethane rafter tail is exceptionally low-maintenance, requiring none of the periodic sanding, varnishing, or pest treatments associated with natural wood
- Simply dusting with a damp cloth is sufficient for cleaning
- Avoid using abrasive chemicals, acid-based solvents, or harsh sponges that could damage the surface
- For exterior installations, the painted surface should be inspected every few years depending on local weather conditions and refreshed with UV-resistant paint if necessary
- Minor scratches or dents caused by impacts can be easily repaired using filler and touch-up paint
Can the P1981AK polyurethane rafter tail be used on exteriors?
Assess water and moisture exposure using the product technical data, surface finish and installation details. It can be safely used outdoors under eaves and balconies. However, to prevent yellowing caused by UV rays, it must be painted with a high-quality, UV-resistant exterior paint.
Which adhesive should be used for installation?
To ensure maximum adhesion and safety during installation, only Polure Polfix polyurethane adhesive should be used. Silicone or similar flexible adhesives may fail over time. Additionally, mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory to secure the product safely until the adhesive fully cures.
What are the advantages of this polyurethane rafter tail compared to real wood?
Over time, real wood decays, cracks, suffers from pest infestation when exposed to moisture, and requires constant varnishing. Assess water and moisture exposure using the product technical data, surface finish and installation details. Include the product weight and fixing loads when assessing the substrate and supporting structure. Thanks to advanced molding technology, the natural wood grain texture is replicated perfectly.
Can the product be used directly without painting?
The product is shipped from the factory with a white primer coat. To achieve an aesthetic wood look and protect the polyurethane material from external factors, it must be painted after installation. To highlight the wood grain, wood-wash or faux wood painting techniques in brown tones are typically applied.
Is it mandatory to apply an additional primer before installation?
The factory primer prepares the surface for painting. However, because paint manufacturers do not guarantee applications made without their own primers, applying an additional primer is optional and left to the customer's choice. Polure does not accept responsibility for paint durability.
