Polyurethane Fluted Wall Panel
A polyurethane fluted wall panel is a decorative grooved wall covering for residential and commercial interiors. This guide explains orientation, painting, installation and quantity planning.

What is a polyurethane fluted wall panel?
A polyurethane fluted wall panel is a decorative wall covering with raised ribs and vertical or horizontal grooves. It is also known as a grooved wall panel, slatted wall panel or fluted decorative panel.
Unlike traditional wall panelling, a fluted panel focuses on repeated grooves and the depth of a linear pattern. Traditional wall panelling may include frames, panels and more detailed mouldings, while fluted panels create a continuous, rhythmic surface.
Polyurethane elements are decorative and non-load-bearing: they must not support loads, televisions, chandeliers or other weights.
Where can fluted wall panelling be used?
Fluted wall panelling is suitable for interior walls where a regular, contemporary texture is desired. The choice of wall depends on the furnishings, the visibility of the surface and the intended decorative effect.
- A TV wall can become an orderly backdrop for the screen and surrounding furnishings.
- The wall behind a bed headboard can gain a more intimate and decorative appearance.
- In a corridor, a grooved wall panel can guide the route and enhance a long, linear wall.
- In shops, showrooms and offices, it can define a reception wall, display area or branded backdrop.
Vertical or horizontal fluted wall panels
The direction of the grooves changes how a wall is perceived: vertical lines tend to draw the eye upwards, while horizontal lines emphasise the lateral spread of the surface.
Vertical installation can emphasise perceived height and create continuity on a TV wall or behind a bed headboard. Horizontal installation can highlight the width of a corridor, entrance area or commercial wall.
For a consistent result, the grooves should align between consecutive panels. Before installation, check the direction of each panel, the sequence of raised sections and the alignment of joints.
Can polyurethane fluted wall panels be painted?
Polyurethane fluted wall panels can be painted when the surface is prepared according to the product guidance. The factory primer is specified as white 1K acrylic primer and helps prepare the panel for its final finish.
A water-based finish compatible with the substrate can be used for painting. A roller helps cover raised surfaces, while a brush can reach the base of the grooves more precisely.
Apply the finish evenly and check recessed areas and panel edges. Test the chosen finish on an inconspicuous area before applying it across the full wall.
Installing fluted panels with adhesive and finishing joints
Fluted wall panels are installed using PU-based mounting adhesive on a clean, dry and suitably prepared surface.
Panels should be positioned and aligned according to the groove pattern. Joints and connection points can be finished with paintable acrylic filler to create a more uniform surface before painting.
Silicone is not suitable for installing these decorative elements. Follow the product and adhesive instructions during preparation, application and finishing.
How to calculate the required quantity of fluted wall panels
The required quantity is calculated by comparing the wall area with the panel dimensions shown on the relevant product page.
Consider the wall width and height, the selected orientation, cuts near corners and the continuity of grooves between adjacent panels. A dedicated calculator can support the estimate, which should then be checked against the installation layout.
Add the expected allowance for cuts, adjustments and pattern alignment to the total. For plain panels, use the allowance specified as 10%.
