The polyurethane plain half column shaft is a decorative architectural element designed to highlight vertical surface areas in interior and exterior projects. Featuring a smooth, minimalist surface form, it seamlessly fits into both modern and classic design concepts. Its semi-circular profile mounts flush against wall surfaces, delivering column depth and visual volume without sacrificing interior floor space.
This product measures 150 mm in depth, 300 mm in width, and 2400 mm in height. Manufactured from high-density rigid polyurethane (150-220 kg/m³), it offers strength comparable to wood while keeping overall weight to a minimum. Thanks to its closed-cell structure, water absorption remains under 1%, providing high resistance to moisture, water, and impact. With dimensional stability tested between -20 °C and +70 °C, it withstands harsh climatic conditions without warping or cracking.
Featuring a half-cylindrical cross-section and a smooth exterior surface, the shaft creates a continuous vertical flow. Delivered with a factory-applied primer, the surface provides a uniform texture that ensures optimal paint adhesion. Its clean vertical lines enhance the perception of ceiling height, adding architectural stature to interior and exterior spaces.
This polyurethane half column shaft is widely used beside villa entrance doors, on exterior facade cladding, living room and hallway accent walls, hotel reception areas, and commercial interiors. On exteriors, it adds dynamic architectural character to facade surfaces, while indoors it serves as a framing decorative feature behind TV units or surrounding wall niches.
Significantly lighter than plaster, stone, or concrete alternatives, this element adds no structural weight to the building and ensures easy installation. During application, high-tack polyurethane (PU) adhesive is applied to the rear contact surface, supplemented by screws for mechanical fastening. Joints are filled, sanded smooth with 180-220 grit sandpaper, and can be painted in any color using water-based or synthetic paints.
Eliminating the labor-intensive handling and transport risks of heavy cast materials, this polyurethane plain column shaft offers a durable, low-maintenance architectural solution for your projects with the assurance of Polure quality.
- The polyurethane plain half column shaft has a wide range of applications across both interior and exterior projects
- In exterior settings, it serves as an aesthetic cladding solution for villa entrances, facade reliefs, terrace coverings, and column wrapping projects
- For exterior installations, painting with UV-resistant exterior paints is recommended
- Indoors, it is used to create architectural depth in hotel lobbies, wedding venues, restaurants, retail store displays, spacious living room walls, and hallway passages
- Functionally, it can be mounted flush against flat walls to create a half-column effect, or two half columns can be combined to wrap around existing concrete or steel posts to form a full cylindrical column look
- The wall surface designated for installation must be dry, clean, and free of dust
- High-tack polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive is applied in a continuous bead along the rear bonding surfaces of the product
- Once positioned against the wall, screws are inserted at designated points for mechanical fastening to ensure safety and long-term hold
- Screw heads and wall joinery seams are filled with flexible interior or exterior spackle
- After drying, the surface is sanded smooth using 180-220 grit sandpaper
- Following an optional additional coat of primer over the factory-primed surface, the application is completed with two coats of water-based or synthetic paint in the desired color
- Maintaining the polyurethane column shaft is exceptionally simple
- Because its closed-cell structure renders it highly resistant to moisture and water, it can be easily cleaned using a damp or moist cloth
- Strong chemical cleaners containing bleach, thinners, or harsh acids should be avoided
- For exterior applications, accumulated dust and dirt can be washed off with low-pressure water
- If the painted surface shows wear over the years, it can be repainted after light sanding
Is the polyurethane plain column shaft suitable for exterior use?
Yes. Because polyurethane material features a closed-cell structure, it is resistant to moisture and freeze-thaw cycles. It can be safely used on building exteriors. For long-lasting outdoor performance, painting with UV-resistant exterior paint is required.
Is this product a structural column that carries building load?
No. The polyurethane column shaft is strictly a decorative cladding and architectural design element. Include the product weight and fixing loads when assessing the substrate and supporting structure.
Does the product arrive pre-painted and ready for installation?
The product is shipped factory-coated with a white primer. This primer layer prepares the surface for final painting. Once installation, filling, and sanding are completed, you can paint it in any desired color using water-based or synthetic paint suitable for interior or exterior use.
Which adhesive should be used for column installation?
High-tack polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive must be used for installation. Silicone or plaster-based adhesives are not suitable for securing polyurethane long-term. For heavier or larger pieces, mechanical fastening with screws in addition to adhesive is required.
Can two half columns be combined to create a full cylindrical column?
Yes. Two half column shafts of the same size can be placed face-to-face, and the joint lines joined with polyurethane (PU) adhesive and filler to form a 360-degree full round column. Once the joints are sanded, the seam line disappears completely.
