Villa Facade Design Guide

A practical summary of element selection, proportion, measuring and colour decisions on a villa facade.

A villa facade is not a random collection of elements but an order in which parts are proportioned to each other. This guide covers the three horizontal zones of the elevation, element selection, the inner-diameter rule for pier cladding and the set of measurements needed for a quotation — so decisions are settled on drawings before work begins.

Which three zones is the facade divided into?

In the classical order a facade reads as base, body and crown. The base is defined at ground level with pilasters or stronger profiles; on the body floors the window surrounds set the rhythm; the crown zone closes with a deep cornice under the eaves. When these three zones are proportioned to each other, the facade height looks more balanced.

In which order are elements selected?

Window surrounds come first because they are the most repeated element: surround width should be a legible ratio of window width. Next, column or pilaster axes at entrances and balconies are aligned with window axes. Finally the slim inter-floor cornice and the deep eaves cornice are chosen. When all parts come from the same profile family, the shadow line stays consistent.

Which measurement is taken when cladding an existing pier?

The widest point of the concrete pier or steel profile is measured and the INNER diameter of the column must exceed it; otherwise the two half shells will not close at the vertical joints. If a load will rest on it, the diameter must also leave room for the internal steel frame: a polyurethane column is not load-bearing, the frame carries the load and the column is never filled with concrete.

What is needed for colour and quotation?

A common scheme is off-white or beige for the body with a half-tone lighter shade for the elements. Whatever brand the topcoat is, the primer must be that brand’s system primer. A quotation requires the facade dimensions (linear metres or m²), current photographs, architectural drawings if available, and the location. Non-catalogue models can be produced with 3D scanning and CNC; 3D design and on-site surveys are chargeable. Prices cover the product and delivery is ex-works.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is surround width chosen on a villa facade?

It is proportioned to the window width. A wide surround on a narrow window makes the facade heavy, while a slim surround on a wide opening is not legible from a distance. The decision is made on the facade drawing.

Can an existing villa facade be renovated without demolition?

Yes. The elements are surface-mounted onto render from outside; the structural system is not touched and there is no demolition producing dust and rubble.

Why is ceiling height requested for column diameter?

Diameter is proportioned to floor height. In addition, in a cladding scenario the inner diameter must exceed the existing pier, and in a load scenario room must remain for the frame.

Is 3D visualisation produced for the facade?

Yes. The architectural team prepares project-specific 3D design and renders before application; this is a chargeable service. Preparing the price quotation itself is free.
