Flat Moulding Profiles in Modern Architectural Design
Minimalist design trends prioritize simplicity and functionality in interior spaces. In this context, flat moulding profiles are highly favored by architects for their clean lines and clutter-free structure. Plain wall mouldings are the perfect choice for creating symmetrical wall panels, defining hallway transitions, or achieving a modern look at ceiling junctions.
Lightweight yet impact-resistant, polyurethane flat mouldings offer exceptional durability against wear and tear. With a density of 150-200 kg/m³, they provide a surface hardness close to wood while ensuring easy installation due to their lightweight nature. Unlike fragile materials like plaster, they carry no risk of cracking or breaking during transport and installation, helping projects finish quickly and flawlessly.
Material Quality and Durability Standards
Our products are manufactured using high-density rigid polyurethane (PU) technology with a closed-cell structure. Thanks to this technology, the water absorption rate is below 1%, ensuring complete dimensional stability in humid environments. They suffer no loss of shape, shrinkage, expansion, or warping in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C. In the event of fire, they offer safe usage with self-extinguishing properties once the flame source is removed.
Factory Primer and Painting Processes
All our flat moulding profiles are shipped with a factory-applied primer to enhance surface quality and optimize paint adhesion. However, paint manufacturers do not provide a surface warranty for topcoat applications done without their own primers. Therefore, applying an additional primer coat after installation is entirely optional and up to the customer. As Polure, we do not assume responsibility for the performance or durability of the paints used. Additionally, it should be noted that unpainted rigid PU material may yellow outdoors due to UV rays. For exterior applications, the use of UV-resistant paint is strictly required.
Various Sizes and Profile Diversity
We offer a wide range of profiles to suit projects of various scales:
- P85003 (12x16 mm): Designed to create minimal and fine lines. Ideal for small rooms or delicate furniture details.
- P85002 and P85008 (20x40 mm): The most popular models for wall panelling applications with their mid-scale dimensions.
- P85010 (20x43 mm) and P85015 (40x40 mm): Create deeper shadow plays and distinct borders.
- P85406 (27x57 mm) and P85403: Provide a bold, substantial look in large commercial spaces, hotel lobbies, and exterior decorations thanks to their wide cross-sections.
Usage Areas
With their multi-purpose structure, flat moulding designs have a wide range of applications in both interior and exterior projects. Indoors, they can create aesthetic divisions with simple wall framing in living rooms and entryways. They are ideal for designing decorative headboard panels in bedrooms, running modern border lines in hallways, and crafting geometric patterns on ceilings. They are also frequently preferred for framing details on doors, cabinet fronts, and mirror borders. On exteriors, they add depth to buildings as window trim complements, decorative lines above floor moldings, or minimalist corner accents.
Installation
For professional installation, ensure the application surface is clean, dry, and smooth. For corner joints, profiles must be miter-cut at a 45-degree angle. Only polyurethane (PU) construction adhesive should be used for bonding; silicone-based adhesives must be avoided. Mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory to prevent the mouldings from slipping during installation and to ensure they sit flush against the surface. Screw holes and joints should be filled with putty and smoothed with 180-220 grit sandpaper. Applying the paint manufacturer's primer before the topcoat is optionally recommended, followed by two coats of paint. For exterior applications, using UV-resistant paint and exterior-grade joint filler is mandatory.
Care Information
Maintenance of flat decorative mouldings made of high-density rigid PU is highly practical. Thanks to their closed-cell structure with a water absorption rate below 1%, these products can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Abrasive chemicals and solvent-containing substances should be avoided during cleaning. With their fully moisture-resistant structure, they maintain their original shape for years without swelling, rotting, or molding in high-humidity areas like bathrooms and kitchens.
