Structural loads must always be anchored directly into the primary building framework using steel brackets or concrete footings, with the corbel installed as a cladding detail over or around the structural core.
Sizing and Proportioning for Architectural Integration
Selecting the correct corbel dimension requires balancing the projection depth, vertical height, and overall facade scale. Surface Preparation and Adhesive Selection Rules
Proper surface preparation is required to establish a permanent bond between the polyurethane corbel and the wall substrate. The mounting surface must be entirely clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, or flaking paint. Smooth masonry or concrete surfaces should be lightly scuffed to enhance mechanical adhesion.
Adhesive selection demands strict adherence to technical standards. Polyurethane (PU) mounting adhesive must be applied along all contact faces. Silicone adhesive is strictly forbidden because it lacks shear strength under outdoor thermal movement and leads to long-term bond failure. Corbels leave the factory pre-primed, though an additional coat of primer remains optional depending on the chemical compatibility of the chosen topcoat.

Relying solely on adhesive to support exterior corbels creates a safety hazard. Mechanical fastening with corrosion-resistant stainless steel screws is mandatory for all installations. Screws must penetrate through the polyurethane body into the solid wall structure or internal mounting blocks to secure the element during adhesive curing.
For corner integrations, corbel profiles must be cut using a 45-degree miter box or compound miter saw equipped with a fine-tooth blade. After mechanical securing, screw holes and seam joints should be filled with outdoor-grade polyurethane putty. Once dry, the filled areas must be sanded smooth using 180-220 grit sandpaper to achieve a seamless joint before topcoat application.
Exterior Coating and UV Protection Requirements
Polure corbel installations on exterior facades require complete protection against ultraviolet radiation. Unprotected polyurethane degrades when exposed to direct sunlight over extended periods. Therefore, applying UV-resistant exterior paint is a mandatory step in the finishing process.
A minimum of 2 coats of 100% acrylic or high-grade elastomeric exterior paint must be applied over the entire surface, including sealed joint lines. Regular maintenance involves inspecting joint caulking every 3 to 5 years and renewing topcoat layers if mechanical wear or weathering appears on South-facing elevations.
