Bringing the rich heritage of classical architecture and neoclassical aesthetics into modern spaces, Short Roman Columns are reimagined through Polure engineering. Inherited from ancient Roman temples, these architectural forms are highly favored in contemporary design to define vertical boundaries, add depth, and establish a prestigious presence. Developed as a superior alternative to traditional marble, stone, or plaster casts, our high-density rigid polyurethane short pilaster columns combine lightweight convenience with exceptional durability, making them indispensable decorative elements for modern structures.
Design Character and Dimensional Variety
The short Roman pilaster options in the Polure collection are diversified to meet the aesthetic demands of projects on various scales. Standing out with their wide cross-sections and ornate details, models P84000C and P84005C (360x360x1070 mm) create a powerful structural statement in large-scale spaces. For more refined and compact areas, half-column Roman designs like P84000D and P84005D (278x278x1070 mm) offer a balanced neoclassical posture. Engineered with a density of 150-200 kg/m³—comparable to the hardness of wood—these products are manufactured in precision molds that capture intricate details flawlessly. Consequently, the motifs on the capital, shaft, and base retain their crisp definition indefinitely.
Technical Advantages and Material Quality
- High-Density Structure: The rigid PU raw material with a density of 150-200 kg/m³ offers high impact resistance and minimizes the risk of breakage.
- Moisture and Water Resistance: Thanks to its closed-cell structure, the water absorption rate is below 1%. This completely prevents rotting, molding, and swelling.
- Temperature and Dimensional Stability: It maintains its shape in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C, preventing dimensional instability such as shrinkage, expansion, or warping.
- Easy Workability: Products are delivered factory-primed. The surface structure provides excellent adhesion for water-based or synthetic paints.
- Fire Resistance: It is classified as flame-retardant and features self-extinguishing properties once the flame source is removed.
Using Short Decorative Pilasters in Architectural Projects
For interior architects and designers, short decorative pilasters are excellent tools for creating smooth transitions and focal points between spaces. Considering the fragility of plaster and the heavy static loads that stone imposes on buildings, lightweight and durable PU solutions bring both speed and safety to projects. Frequently used around fireplaces, grand hall entrances, or at the start of stair balustrades, these elements optimize the vertical perception of a room, making ceilings appear higher.
Usage Areas
Thanks to their versatile application flexibility, Short Roman Columns are essential details for both residential and commercial projects. Indoors, they are positioned to create a vertical rhythm in prestigious villa entryways, hotel lobbies, fireplace surrounds, and niche borders on living room walls. They also function as decorative boundary elements in doorways and custom wall partitions. Outdoors, they reinforce classical architectural character in building entrance portals, window surrounds, balcony balustrade bases, and veranda designs. With a water absorption rate of less than one percent, they can be safely used in rainy and humid exterior conditions.
Installation
The installation process requires specific technical steps to ensure structural stability and longevity. First, verify that the application surface is dry, clean, and level. For cutting, a 45-degree miter joint technique should be applied. Standard silicone must never be used as an adhesive during installation; instead, high-strength PU adhesives such as Polure Polfix should be preferred. Following the adhesive application, mechanical fastening using screws is mandatory. Once screw heads and joints are filled with suitable putty, they should be sanded smooth with 180-220 grit sandpaper. In the final stage, a primer is applied, followed by two coats of paint. For exterior applications, using UV-resistant paints and exterior-grade putties is essential.
Care Information
Maintaining these rigid PU designs is exceptionally effortless. To remove dust and stains from the surface, a damp microfiber cloth and mild cleaners free of abrasive chemicals are sufficient. The use of aggressive thinners or solvent-based substances must be strictly avoided. Annual surface inspections and occasional paint touch-ups will ensure the products retain their pristine aesthetic form for decades.
