Aesthetic Transformation in Architectural Transitions with Door Architraves
From modern architectural trends to classic restoration projects, entrance and transition points define the character of any space. Door architraves establish an aesthetic connection between the wall and the opening, adding depth, prestige, and architectural hierarchy. Frequently preferred in door frame designs, these elements create focal points on both interior and exterior facades. Unlike traditional wood or heavy plaster profiles, these products are manufactured using high-density rigid polyurethane (PU) raw material technology, offering a perfect blend of durability and superior surface detail. This collection, offered with Polure quality, transforms door surrounds into aesthetic masterpieces.
High-Density Structural Features and Technical Standards
Longevity and dimensional stability are critical factors in structural elements. Thanks to their closed-cell structure with a density of 150-200 kg/m³, our products offer a hardness close to wood while remaining exceptionally lightweight. This lightweight nature ensures easy installation without adding static load to the building. With a temperature resistance ranging from -20°C to +80°C, our materials maintain their shape without shrinking, expanding, or warping, even in the harshest climates. An negligible water absorption rate of under 1% prevents swelling, rotting, or deterioration in humid environments. Additionally, the self-extinguishing property of the material enhances fire safety by putting itself out once the flame source is removed.
Design and Model Variety for Diverse Architectural Scales
Choosing the right scale of products in line with the ceiling heights and widths of architectural projects is crucial. In our product range, the KKAP11 model (217x2000x2580 mm) stands out with its balanced dimensions and classic lines, while the KKAP29 model (257x2080x2630 mm) is an ideal alternative for those seeking a wider and more prominent profile. For high-ceilinged and monumental entrance designs, the KKAP30 model (220x2160x2960 mm) enhances the prestige of projects with its grand dimensions. Thanks to computer-aided molding technology, even the finest details and motifs are rendered onto the surface with flawless clarity. Profile options are available for every style, from classic acanthus leaves to simple, minimalist straight lines.
Structural Advantages Over Traditional Materials
- Superiority over Plaster: Not fragile like plaster profiles; does not crumble during transport and installation, and exhibits high impact resistance.
- Superiority over Wood: Unaffected by moisture, water, and rot. It does not harbor pests and will not warp or crack over time.
- Superiority over EPS Foam: Features a much higher surface hardness, offers excellent impact resistance, and delivers smooth, high-definition details.
- Insulation and Workability: Contributes to thermal and acoustic insulation; can be easily cut, puttied, sanded, and painted just like wood.
Surface Preparation, Priming, and Painting Guidelines
Our products are shipped from the factory with a special primer coating. This factory primer prepares the surface for paint adhesion and facilitates the application of water-based or synthetic paints. However, there is an important consideration regarding priming: paint manufacturers do not guarantee surfaces painted directly without using their own specific primers. Therefore, applying an additional primer is entirely optional and at the customer's discretion. Polure does not guarantee or accept liability for the performance of the paints used. For exterior applications, the use of UV-resistant exterior paint is strictly mandatory to prevent the unpainted material from yellowing over time.
Usage Areas
Door architraves are highly functional decorative elements with a wide range of applications. Indoors, they serve as decorative door frames that bridge the gap between the wall surface and the door casing in living rooms, entryways, and hallways. Thanks to their excellent resistance to water and moisture, they are perfect alternatives to wooden door trims in bathrooms, kitchens, and spa areas. They are also preferred for designing prestigious transition areas in hotel lobbies, restaurants, and administrative buildings. On exteriors, they are positioned as front door surrounds at the main entrances of villas, business centers, and historical structures, giving buildings a monumental and grand appearance.
Installation
For a successful installation, the application surface must be dry, clean, and smooth. First, take accurate measurements of the door opening and cut the profiles at a 45-degree angle using a miter saw. During the gluing phase, apply a generous amount of polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive into the channels on the back of the material; never use silicone adhesive for installation. Mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory to prevent slipping while the adhesive cures. Joints and screw heads should be filled with exterior putty (for outdoor use), and once dry, smoothed with 180-220 grit sandpaper. The installation is completed after an optional primer coat and two coats of topcoat paint.
Care Information
Featuring a closed-cell structure, these profiles retain their shape for many years with minimal maintenance. A damp, soft cloth is sufficient for cleaning; abrasive detergents or harsh cleaning tools must be avoided. Thanks to their fully waterproof nature, they are not damaged by periodic cleaning. If a color change is desired over time or in case of minor surface impacts, the surface can be lightly sanded and repainted. For exterior applications, the joint fillers should be checked periodically and renewed if necessary.
