Structural Solutions for Wall and Ceiling Transitions
In classical and modern architectural projects, defining wall surfaces, partitioning spaces, and achieving an aesthetic scale at ceiling junctions are of critical importance. Our Border Crown collection is specifically developed for interior designers and architects to establish upper boundaries in wall paneling applications, crown door pediments, and add depth to vertical surfaces. Offered as an alternative to the fragile nature of traditional plaster casts and the moisture-sensitive form of wood, these high-density polymer elements elevate the aesthetic value of structures to the highest level.
High-Density Rigid Material Technology
Our products are manufactured from rigid polyurethane (PU) raw material with a density of 150-200 kg/m³. This density level provides the material with a hardness close to wood while offering an exceptionally lightweight structure. Thanks to its closed-cell structure, its water absorption rate is below 1%, preventing it from being affected by humidity, moisture, or direct water contact. Exhibiting high dimensional stability, these elements do not shrink, expand, or warp in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C. In the event of fire, they are self-extinguishing, putting themselves out once the flame source is removed.
Design Options for Different Architectural Scales
To capture ideal visual proportions according to the ceiling heights and space widths of projects, our collection includes millimetrically scaled alternatives:
- P215 Model (54x1280x230 mm): Provides a balanced visual transition in residential, office, and corridor designs with standard ceiling heights.
- P215A Model (69x1280x251 mm): Ideal for defining wall details in medium-to-high ceiling restaurants, hotel rooms, and spacious living room projects.
- P215B Model (64x1280x290 mm): Strengthens architectural character with its deep structure in high-ceiling lobbies, palaces, or villa-type residential entryways.
Surface Preparation and Painting Principles
Delivered with a factory-applied primer coat, the product surface is prepared to enhance paint adhesion. Suitable for coloring with water-based or synthetic paints, this surface becomes ready for the final topcoat application after installation. As an important technical detail; although the factory primer prepares the surface, paint manufacturers do not guarantee paint performance on surfaces where their own primer products have not been applied. Therefore, applying an additional primer coat at the installation site is an optional choice, and the responsibility lies with the user. Polure does not offer a warranty regarding the performance of the paint brands used. For exterior applications, UV-resistant exterior paints must absolutely be preferred to prevent the material from yellowing under UV rays.
Usage Areas
Border Crown designs cater to a wide range of applications in both interior restorations and modern exterior projects. Indoors, they are preferred to define the upper boundaries of wall paneling in hotel lobbies, restaurant halls, and luxury residential projects. Along corridors, they horizontally divide the wall, elegantly separating transitions between two different colors or wallpapers. They serve as decorative pediments above door frames and at the peaks of large mirror frames. In exterior applications, thanks to their high weather resistance, moisture resistance, and dimensional stability, they are safely preferred in window pediment systems, building entrance portal crowns, floor moldings, and under-eave decorations to impart a classical architectural character to the structure. In high-traffic commercial areas, they provide long-lasting protection and aesthetic boundaries thanks to their impact resistance.
Installation
The first requirement for installation is that the surfaces to be applied must be completely clean, dry, and smooth. After measurements are taken, profiles for corner joints are cut at a 45-degree angle using a miter saw or a hand saw. Only polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive must be used during the gluing phase; silicone-based adhesives should definitely be avoided. It is mandatory to secure heavy or wide pieces with screws to prevent slipping and ensure mechanical stabilization. After screw holes and joints are filled with a high-quality exterior putty, they are smoothed with 180-220 grit sandpaper. In the final stage, an additional primer application is optionally carried out in accordance with the paint manufacturer's recommendations, followed by two coats of paint to complete the installation. For outdoor areas, exterior-grade fillers should be used for screw heads and joints.
Care Information
Thanks to their rigid polymer structure, cleaning these decorative elements is highly practical. For routine cleaning, dusting with a slightly damp, soft microfiber cloth is sufficient. For more prominent stains on the surface, pH-neutral soapy water free of abrasive chemicals can be used. Direct contact of thinners, acetone, or highly acidic cleaning agents and stiff brushes with the surface should be avoided. The lifespan of painted surfaces lasts for decades depending on the quality of the paint used; they can be easily repaired thanks to their ability to be sanded, puttied, and repainted when needed.
