Rigid Polymer Technology and Rustic Design
Used in traditional architecture to create a clean finish at ceiling and wall junctions, rustic corner elements are now being re-engineered with modern technology. Made from high-density rigid PU, these decorative corner profiles have a density of 150-220 kg/m³ (production target ~160 kg/m³) and offer surface hardness comparable to wood while remaining lightweight, helping avoid unnecessary added load on the structure. They eliminate the installation challenges and excess weight associated with heavy solid-wood pieces, providing a practical junction solution for large ceiling beam projects.
High Structural Strength and Dimensional Stability
Unlike natural wood, these products are highly resistant to moisture and temperature changes. The rigid elements retain their form without shrinkage, expansion or warping across temperature fluctuations ranging from -100 °C / +80 °C, delivering excellent dimensional stability. Their closed-cell structure keeps water absorption below 1%. This very low rate helps prevent rot, mold growth and swelling, even in humid environments. They also feature self-extinguishing properties, meaning the material goes out on its own once the flame source is removed.
Surface Preparation and Primer Application
All our products are shipped from the factory with a specially applied primer layer. This ready-primed surface is prepared for the final coat and helps the paint adhere. However, paint manufacturers may not provide a warranty for surfaces painted without using their own primer products. For this reason, applying an additional primer before the final coat is optional and remains the customer's choice. Polure does not guarantee the quality or performance of paints used, nor does it accept responsibility for issues that may occur after painting. The surfaces can be easily colored with water-based or synthetic paints. For exterior applications exposed directly to sunlight, keep in mind that unpainted rigid material may yellow; UV-resistant paint must therefore be used.
Usage Areas
Decorative corner profiles are suitable for a wide range of interior design projects and protected exterior applications. Indoors, they are used at wall junctions in rustic beam systems installed on the ceilings of living rooms, hotel lobbies, restaurants and mountain homes, helping conceal installation gaps with a finished appearance. On exterior facades, they are used as rustic corner elements beneath eaves and where window surrounds and string-course details meet. With water absorption below 1%, they can also be used safely in humid pool areas, bathrooms and kitchens.
Installation
For a professional, long-lasting installation, follow these steps: 1. Make sure the ceiling or wall surface is dry, clean and free of dust. 2. Cut the corner profiles accurately with 45° miter cuts according to the installation plan. 3. Apply polyurethane (PU) installation adhesive to the joining and bonding channels on the back of the product. Never use silicone adhesive during installation. 4. After positioning the profile on the surface, mechanically secure it with screws. 5. Fill screw heads and any gaps at the joints with a suitable filler. 6. Once the filler has dried, use 180-220 grit sandpaper to create a completely smooth surface. 7. Apply at least two coats of paint, with an additional primer coat if preferred. UV-resistant paint is required for exterior applications.
Care Information
Rustic corner elements made with a rigid closed-cell structure require very little maintenance. Because the closed cells do not readily absorb moisture, a soft, slightly damp cloth is sufficient for cleaning. Do not use abrasive chemicals or stiff brushes, as they may damage the paint layer and surface texture. Minor impact damage can be repaired easily with filler, followed by 180-220 grit sanding and localized repainting.
