Technical limits and performance parameters include:

- Moisture Resistance: Water absorption remains strictly below 1%, preventing internal freezing and expansion cracks.
- Load Capacity: Polyurethane balustrades and supporting decorative columns are non-structural architectural elements; they do not carry structural building loads.
Balustrade Cross-Section Selection and Dimensioning
Selecting appropriate profile cross-sections depends on the architectural scale and structural substrate of the installation area. Standard handrail widths must match the proportional scale of the lower support rail and intermediate balusters. For balcony and terrace perimeters, profile height and width selection must align with local building codes for safety barriers while considering wind load pressures against non-structural fills.
When planning spacing, intermediate baluster centers should be distributed evenly to maintain architectural symmetry and prevent wide structural gaps. For proper visual and mechanical integration, cross-sections must allow sufficient internal cavity space if structural steel anchors are required within the base structure.
Measurement Taking and Material Estimation
Accurate material estimation requires calculating net linear meters along the installation centerline, adding allowances for field trimming and corner miters. Every corner junction cut at a 45-degree angle reduces effective profile length, necessitating an additional 5% to 10% material buffer depending on site complexity.
To estimate total components required:
- Measure total run length for top handrails and bottom base rails in linear meters.
- Calculate the required quantity of vertical balusters based on a standard center-to-center axis spacing.
- Account for terminal structural posts or decorative column end-caps at all termination points.
Mechanical Fixing and Adhesive Application Criteria
Installation of polyurethane balustrades requires a combination of chemical bonding and mechanical anchoring. Substrates must be completely clean, dry, and free of dust or loose material prior to mounting. Profile corner joints and connections must be prepared with precise 45-degree miter cuts.
Chemical bonding must be executed using polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive. The use of standard silicone is strictly prohibited due to insufficient shear strength and poor long-term adhesion to polyurethane. In addition to chemical adhesives, mechanical fixing using stainless steel screws is mandatory to anchor components securely against mechanical displacement during thermal expansion cycles.
Surface Preparation, Priming, and Exterior Painting
Polyurethane balustrade profiles are supplied with a factory-applied neutral primer coat. While this primer provides initial surface protection, applying an additional site primer coat is optional based on project specifications and surface condition after sanding.
Following mechanical fixing, screw heads and joinery seams must be filled with a compatible exterior-grade polyurethane or epoxy putty. Once fully cured, surface transitions must be sanded smooth using 180-220 grit sandpaper. For exterior applications, coating the entire assembly with a minimum of two coats of UV-resistant exterior paint is mandatory to prevent yellowing and surface chalking from solar radiation.
Pre-Purchase Technical Checklist
Before ordering polyurethane balustrade profiles for a project, verify the following technical parameters on site:
- Confirm that the substrate is structural concrete or metal capable of receiving screw anchors.
- Verify that no primary structural loads will be transferred onto decorative polyurethane elements or columns.
- Ensure the installation surface has proper drainage slopes to prevent standing water at rail bases.
- Verify chemical compatibility of field-applied adhesives (PU assembly adhesive only) and UV-resistant topcoats.
