Choosing Table Columns for Architectural Aesthetics
In interior design, furniture is not just functional; it defines the character of a space. Classic and neoclassical column designs, combined with modern furniture engineering, have found a new purpose as coffee table bases. Produced by Polure, our Coffee Table Columns serve as both load-bearing and decorative elements in spaces ranging from spacious living rooms to prestigious hotel lobbies. Designed as an alternative to heavy stone, carved wood, or fragile plaster casts, these products combine lightweight properties with high durability. Used especially under wide coffee tables, side tables, and consoles, these vertical elements enhance the aesthetic appeal of any interior's vertical axis.
Technical Specifications and Material Quality
The high-density rigid foam formula used in our casting process features a density of 150-200 kg/m³. This specific density provides a surface hardness comparable to wood while offering an ideal lightweight structure for easy transport and installation. Thanks to the closed-cell structure of the material, its water absorption rate is below 1%, preventing swelling, rotting, or dimensional warping even in humid environments. It maintains its structural integrity in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C, making it safe for both indoor and semi-outdoor use. To enhance surface quality and prepare them for painting, the products are pre-coated with a special factory primer. This primer coat ensures superior adhesion for the final topcoat.
Advantages Over Wood and Plaster Alternatives
Material selection in furniture design is critical for longevity and ease of maintenance. Plaster columns are highly susceptible to impact and run the risk of cracking during transport. Wood, on the other hand, can warp, crack, or suffer from pest damage over time due to moisture absorption. Polure products offer a shatterproof, crack-resistant structure with high impact absorption. They can be easily puttied, sanded, and repainted, allowing for quick on-site repairs of any minor surface damage. Compared to EPS styrofoam, they feature a much harder surface texture, ensuring that fine architectural details and sharp lines emerge flawlessly from the mold.
Flexibility for Design Professionals
- Wide Range of Models: From detailed designs inspired by classic Corinthian, Ionic, and Doric capitals to modern minimalist lines, we offer alternatives suitable for every concept.
- Paint Compatibility: Fully compatible with both water-based and synthetic paints, the surface allows for distressing, gold leafing, or flat matte color applications.
- High Load Capacity: The rigid structure with a density of 150-200 kg/m³ safely supports thick glass, marble, or solid wood tops.
- Lightweight Design: Unlike heavy marble columns, they do not overload the floor, enabling the production of easily movable furniture.
Usage Areas
Table Columns and Pedestals offer versatile decorative solutions for both indoor and sheltered outdoor spaces. Indoors, they are highly preferred as base supports for large coffee tables that serve as the focal point of living rooms. Elegant designs are achieved by placing thick glass tops over two or more columns. They also serve as side table legs in bedrooms as a nightstand alternative, or as decorative pedestals in entryways to display vases, sculptures, or lighting fixtures. In commercial spaces, they function as prestigious display pedestals in hotel lobbies, luxury restaurant entrances, exhibition halls, and office waiting areas. Thanks to their moisture- and water-resistant structure, they are also safely used in sunrooms, indoor pool areas, and sheltered patio furniture.
Installation
The installation and assembly of Table Columns into furniture should be carried out following specific technical steps:\n1. Surface Preparation: The floor and the column surface must be completely clean, dry, and free of grease.\n2. Miter Cutting: If height adjustment is required, a clean cut should be made using 45-degree miter saw tools.\n3. Gluing: A polyurethane (PU) assembly adhesive must be used for fixing. Silicone-based adhesives should absolutely not be preferred at this stage.\n4. Mechanical Fastening: To ensure the column's load-bearing capacity is secure, mechanical fastening with screws is MANDATORY.\n5. Surface Finishing: Screw holes and joints are filled with a high-quality putty. After drying, sand with 180-220 grit sandpaper for a smooth finish.\n6. Pre-Paint Primer: Although the factory-applied primer prepares the surface, paint manufacturers do not guarantee paint performance without their own primers. Therefore, additional primer application is optional and is the customer's responsibility.\n7. Topcoat Paint: Finally, apply at least 2 coats of water-based or synthetic paint. If used outdoors, UV-resistant paint is mandatory.
Care Information
Maintenance of Table Columns made from rigid foam is highly practical. Thanks to its antistatic surface, dust accumulation is minimal. Cleaning with a damp, soft microfiber cloth is sufficient. To extend the life of the paint, harsh chemical solvents, thinners, bleach, or abrasive powder cleaners must never be used. Minor scratches or dents caused by accidental impacts can be easily restored to their original state with a light filler putty, fine sanding, and localized touch-up painting.
