Architectural Depth in Facade Design with Window Crowns
Designed to bring aesthetic harmony to the upper sections of windows and doors in architectural projects, Window Crowns (Pediments) add vertical movement to facades while highlighting a building's unique character. Historically crafted from heavy materials like stone, marble, and plaster, modern production technologies have replaced these with high-durability polymer-based alternatives. Manufactured with Polure quality, these next-generation facade elements preserve the aesthetic weight of traditional stonework while offering a lightweight form that places zero static load on the building's structure.
Models in various dimensions, such as P1470A (108x2400x422 mm) and P2839 (255x2400x375 mm), offer perfect scale compatibility across all facade surfaces, from wide window spans to narrow entryways. These elements balance horizontal and vertical lines on exterior walls, enhancing the building's monumental stature. Beyond exteriors, they are also utilized to create stunning focal points in high-ceilinged interiors, above fireplaces, and in grand transition corridors.
Technical Specifications and Material Structure
Modern decorative window crowns are manufactured from rigid polyurethane (PU) foam with a density of 150-200 kg/m³. This specific density provides a surface hardness comparable to wood while allowing easy cutting and processing on-site. The closed-cell structure of the material keeps water absorption below 1% (negligible level). Consequently, no structural degradation such as swelling, cracking, or deformation occurs under rainy, freezing, or highly humid weather conditions.
Our window pediment models maintain dimensional stability across a wide temperature range of -20°C to +80°C, without expanding or contracting. Additionally, the self-extinguishing property of the material contributes to fire safety standards. Highly resistant to the fragility of plaster and the decay or insect damage associated with wood, these rigid polymer structures represent one of the most reliable investments for long-term projects.
Surface Preparation and Painting Principles
Our products are delivered pre-coated with a special factory primer that protects the surface and prepares it for the topcoat. This primer layer facilitates the adhesion of water-based or synthetic paints. However, paint manufacturers do not guarantee topcoat applications performed without their own specific primers. Therefore, applying an additional primer coat after installation is completely optional, and the decision and application responsibility lie solely with the customer. Polure does not offer any warranty or accept liability for the performance of the paints used.
For exterior applications, it should be noted that unpainted polyurethane material may yellow under the influence of sunlight (UV). Therefore, applying a UV-resistant exterior topcoat paint is mandatory for outdoor use. When coated with the correct paint, the facade pediment preserves its original color and texture for many years.
Usage Areas
Window Crown and Pediment models offer versatile application possibilities for both exterior facades and spacious interior designs. In exterior applications, they serve as a primary design element for window headers in private villas, hotels, restoration projects, and business centers. Especially above entrance doors, they can be combined with vertical columns or jamb profiles to create a monumental entryway. Indoors, they are preferred to emphasize classical architectural details in high-ceilinged living rooms, atop large library units, around fireplaces, or over grand doorways. With a negligible water absorption rate (under 1%), they can also be safely used in indoor pool areas and high-humidity spa centers.
Installation
The installation of Window Crowns is quick and practical thanks to the lightweight nature of the material. For a successful application, the following steps must be followed precisely:\n
\n
Ensure the application surface is completely clean, dry, and free of dust.
\n
Cut the products at a 45-degree angle using a professional miter saw according to the installation measurements.
\n
During bonding, apply only polyurethane (PU) construction adhesive to the back of the material and the joints. Never use silicone adhesive.
\n
Mechanical fastening with screws is MANDATORY to ensure the material sits perfectly on the surface and does not slip until the adhesive cures.
\n
After covering screw heads and joints with an exterior-grade filler, sand the surface smooth using 180-220 grit sandpaper.
\n
Apply an optional additional primer coat to the sanded surface, followed by at least two coats of UV-resistant paint to complete the installation.
\n

Care Information
Thanks to their rigid polymer structure, Window Crowns require virtually no maintenance after installation and proper painting. Unaffected by weather conditions on exteriors, they can be cleaned simply by wiping with a damp, chemical-free cloth. Avoid abrasive chemicals or stiff brushes as they may damage the paint layer. Resistant to rot, mold, and insect infestation, this specialized material ensures long-lasting durability. When the exterior paint needs refreshing over time, the surface can be lightly sanded and repainted.
