Creating a striking focal point in modern architecture and interior design is one of the most effective ways to define a space's character. Fireplace mantels in the Polure product collection combine the aesthetic of traditional craftsmanship with the technical advantages of high-density rigid polyurethane (PU) technology. This product line offers an ideal alternative for professionals who want to bring the warmth of natural wood textures into living spaces while avoiding the structural drawbacks of solid wood, such as warping, cracking, or moisture-induced deformation over time. With its 150-200 kg/m³ high-density formulation, it delivers a hardness comparable to real wood while remaining exceptionally lightweight for effortless installation.
Architectural Character and Dimensional Solutions
Standing out in our fireplace mantel category, the P8404 model makes a bold statement in classic and neoclassical interior designs with its dimensions of 250x1300x1300 mm. The mantel's 250 mm depth provides a functional shelf space for displaying decorative objects, antiques, or mirrors. Thanks to advanced molding techniques, wood grain and knot details are replicated with lifelike precision. Intricate details that would take weeks to carve by hand are seamlessly and symmetrically integrated into wall compositions using this technology. Its lightweight structure ensures safe installation, particularly in multi-story buildings and mezzanines where structural load limits are critical.
Material Durability and Technical Advantages
These rigid foam-based fireplace surrounds offer superior dimensional stability compared to marble or wood alternatives. They do not expand or contract, remaining unaffected by sudden temperature fluctuations or humidity changes. Capable of withstanding temperatures from -20°C to +80°C without losing shape, they are perfectly safe to use with electric or bioethanol fireplace inserts. Furthermore, the material's self-extinguishing property enhances safety by putting itself out once the flame source is removed. With a water absorption rate of less than 1%, it completely prevents swelling or rotting even in highly humid environments.
Versatility in Style and Painting Flexibility
Polure fireplace mantels are shipped ready-to-paint, pre-treated with a special factory primer. This feature allows designers and homeowners to choose the perfect hue to match their interior color palette. Easily finished with water-based or synthetic paints, these surfaces can be transformed into a rustic fireplace surround or a sleek modern focal point using distressing techniques or lacquer finishes. They can also be combined with wall moldings, decorative crowns, and corner motifs to create a floor-to-ceiling integrated wall design.
Usage Areas
Fireplace mantels are primarily positioned as the main focal point in residential living rooms and lounges, but they are also highly favored for creating a cozy ambiance in bedrooms. In commercial projects, these decorative fireplace surrounds are used to enrich reception areas in boutique hotel lobbies, create VIP corners in restaurants and cafes, or design prestigious library walls in elegant offices. Thanks to their moisture-resistant structure, they can be safely installed even in high-humidity semi-wet areas like covered terraces, sunrooms, and bathrooms.
Installation
Before starting the installation, the wall surface must be completely cleared of dust, moisture, and dirt. For large-scale models like the P8404, a precise reference line should be drawn on the wall using a spirit level. Joint connections requiring miter cuts must be cut at a 45-degree angle. During the bonding phase, high-strength PU adhesives like Polure Polfix must be used; silicone adhesives should be strictly avoided. Mechanically securing the parts to the wall with screws is mandatory. Once screw heads and joints are filled with a high-quality joint filler, they should be sanded smooth with 180-220 grit sandpaper, followed by primer and at least two coats of paint to complete the installation.
Care Information
Thanks to their high-density polymer structure, these fireplace mantels require minimal maintenance. The antistatic surface repels dust, making cleaning as simple as wiping with a damp microfiber cloth. Abrasive chemicals and harsh brushes that could scratch the surface must be avoided. Checking the joints once a year and touching them up with acrylic caulk if hairline cracks have formed due to the natural settling of the building will significantly extend the product's lifespan.
