Architectural Aesthetics and Column Forms in Design
From antiquity to modern interior design, vertical load-bearing elements have defined spatial prestige and geometric balance. Today, integrating this classic design language into furniture and interior details is highly practical, thanks to innovative material technologies. Positioned at the heart of living spaces, column pedestal tables combine structural strength with rich visual details. Frequently preferred in classic furniture designs, polyurethane pedestal column models blend the intricate details of traditional hand-carving with modern production standards.
Technical Specifications and Material Quality
All designs in the Polure collection are manufactured using a high-density rigid polyurethane (PU) formula with a density of 150-200 kg/m³. This structure, offering a hardness close to wood, is exceptionally lightweight, facilitating logistics and installation. With a temperature resistance ranging from -20°C to +80°C, these products maintain their dimensional stability even under harsh climatic conditions. Thanks to its closed-cell structure, the water absorption rate is below 1%, preventing swelling, shrinkage, or warping in humid environments. In terms of fire safety, it is self-extinguishing once the flame source is removed.
Comparative Analysis with Traditional Materials
Heavy materials like plaster and marble, commonly used in traditional decor, pose significant challenges during installation due to their fragile nature and high weight. Wood, on the other hand, is prone to rotting, insect infestation, and cracking over time. In contrast, the rigid foam elements developed by Polure offer high impact resistance compared to plaster and are virtually shatterproof. Unlike wood, they are unaffected by humidity and do not rot. Compared to EPS styrofoam, they feature a much higher surface hardness and sharp, deep motif details. These superior qualities provide a long-lasting, easily sandable, and repairable alternative.
Integration in Classic and Contemporary Designs
Offering ultimate flexibility for interior designers and architects, these products are delivered factory-primed. This special surface coating ensures excellent adhesion for all types of water-based and synthetic paints. In classical spaces, these decorative pedestal bases can be enriched with gold leaf, distressing, or patina techniques, while in minimalist and modern settings, they can be transformed into contemporary sculptural forms with matte monochrome paints. Crucially, raw products should not be left outdoors unprotected; since exposed surfaces may yellow over time due to UV rays, using UV-resistant paint is essential for outdoor applications.
Sustainable and Functional Design Details
Minimizing time and labor costs in architectural projects, these systems also add value to buildings with their high thermal and acoustic insulation properties. Offering a wide product range, Polure provides design solutions suitable for projects of any scale. Carrying the aesthetic codes of Classical Roman, Greek, and Baroque eras, these Column models are engineered to safely support heavy glass, marble, or solid wood tops. Thus, they serve both as functional supports and as artistic focal points in any space.
Usage Areas
Column-shaped elements offer a wide range of applications thanks to their versatile design capabilities. Indoors, they are highly preferred as luxury pedestal table bases in living rooms, or as decorative legs under consoles and credenzas. In hotel lobbies, restaurant entrances, art galleries, and prestigious office projects, they enhance visual quality as exhibition pedestals or decorative table bases. They can also be used as planter stands or bust pedestals in enclosed terraces, winter gardens, and spacious entryways. For exterior applications, they serve as elegant complements at villa entrances, doorways, or veranda columns. Thanks to their water- and moisture-resistant structure, they can be safely specified for outdoor conditions.
Installation
To ensure a long-lasting and flawless installation, specific technical steps must be followed precisely. First, the installation surface and product surfaces must be completely clean, dust-free, and dry. For cutting, a 45-degree miter joint technique should be applied to ensure seamless joints. Standard silicone adhesives should never be used during the bonding phase; instead, high-strength specialty adhesives like Polure Polfix must be preferred. In addition to bonding, mechanical fastening with screws is mandatory. After securing, screw holes and joints should be filled with high-quality putty, and once dry, sanded smooth with 180-220 grit sandpaper. A primer coat must be applied before the final topcoat, followed by at least two coats of paint. For exterior installations, joints must be sealed with exterior-grade putty and finished with UV-resistant paint.
Care Information
The closed-cell and smooth surface structure of rigid PU material makes maintenance exceptionally practical. Simply using a slightly damp, soft microfiber cloth is sufficient for cleaning. Regular dusting preserves the vibrancy of the paint and the clarity of the details for many years. Abrasive chemicals, solvent-based thinners, or harsh scrubbing sponges must never be used, as they can damage the paint layer. Since the water absorption rate is below 1%, wiping with a wet cloth is completely safe. In case of accidental impacts or scratches, the surface can easily be puttied, sanded, and repainted.
